The term "Creative space"(KGST) appeared for the first time in the British Council's Creative Economy Global Programme launched in Vietnam in 2014. Accordingly, KGST is a place (can be in the real world or in the virtual world) where creators can share, support, and practice. Creative spaces are very diverse in form, they can be offices (real and virtual), technology incubators, innovative startup incubators (innovative startup), complexes, accommodation facilities, etc. It can be a cafe, gallery, sculpture workshop, stage, studio, etc. It can also be a school, research facility, library or website, forum, social network, etc. In a broader sense, creative spaces include cultural, educational, S&T events or activity groups/groups not tied to fixed locations, etc. to carry out activities such as: producing and trading creative products/services; organise events to promote creativity; implementing creative community development projects; sharing knowledge and skills about creativity through teaching, talks, and workshops; raise funds to support the development of creative activities,...
From 2014 up to now, KGST in Vietnam has continuously developed in quality thanks to the increasingly extensive participation of relevant parties such as state agencies (Decision No. 844/QD-TTg dated May 18, 2016 of the Prime Minister approving Project "Supporting the national innovative startup ecosystem to year 2025”), international development organisations, businesses and individuals operating in the fields of culture, science and technology; increasingly actively contributing to the strong development of the innovative startup ecosystem.

Geographically, the majority of KGST spaces are concentrated in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Da Nang, with the main types being co-working spaces, technology incubators, innovative startup business incubators and contemporary art facilities. Most of these KGSTs belong to private organisations, operating as legal entities as businesses (mostly small businesses), non-governmental organisations, or business households, with a community development orientation, not for profit; The remainder belongs to the public sector, at public service units.
